Say hello to a brand-new, renamed GBCC!

This may not make sense at first, but we promise it’s a great change.

The Graduate Business and Consulting Club has went by several different names. It launched in 2014 as the UNC Science and Business Club, and aspired to empower graduate students to explore the intersection of science and business.

While our club was known as such for the first several years of its existence, it gradually developed a focus and strength in management consulting, leading to it being renamed as the Graduate Business and Consulting Club – the GBCC.

This version of our club’s name is what has stuck, and has developed many powerful relationships with local firms and consultancies around the world. We’re proud of the successes that we’ve brought onto our members since 2014.

However, we felt that we also needed to reset our focus. Our club was launched to be about more than just management consulting, after all. This led the Executive Board to stage a major restructuring, starting with early investigations from President Jiawen Du and fully taking place under her successor, Kéita Yokoyama.

With a unanimous approval from the Executive Board, the club officially renamed itself as the Graduate Business Careers Club at UNC-Chapel Hill. This allows us to keep our existing acronym while broadening our focus to career paths beyond just consulting. The club’s operations have been reorganized to empower its popular, existing events to run more efficiently while creating a path for club members to explore alternative career options while and leave a lasting impact for graduate students. The club also formalized the new structure by creating a new Constitution, web-based infrastructure, real-time communication, and opportunities to get involved.

The GBCC is still proud to lead in its existing initiatives – such as the Beyond the Bench seminars to introduce students to new career paths, pro bono strategy consulting with CGsquared, opportunities to learn through its annual consulting boot camp and Cases & Cases interview practices, and going head-to-head with students around the world in its annual case competition. But we’re also excited to pave the path to even more career options – and along the way, to create memorable experiences for graduate students for years to come.
